Laredo invests $70M in fine arts, Nixon revamp
LAREDO – Laredo ISD broke ground on a $70 million construction project to revamp Nixon High School and build a new Vidal M. Treviño School of Communications and Fine Arts.
The $45 million Nixon redesign project will give the nearly 50-year-old, 211,150-sf campus a facelift, mostly consolidating its sprawled out buildings into one U-shaped complex centered on a courtyard.
Across the street, the Vidal M. Treviño school, often called simply VMT, will move from its 820 Main St. location downtown to neighbor the district’s largest high school. The $24 million, 164,413-sf VMT new campus should receive students in fall 2015.
Total campus square footage of the projects is 369,563 sf.
