VICTORIA – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded $2.3 million to the state of Texas for construction of a community safe room on the campus of St. Joseph High School.

The stand alone, 20,000-sf safe room will provide protection from hurricanes, tropical storms and tornadoes for the residents of Victoria County and is accessible for people with disabilities.

FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program will pay 75 percent or $2,325,000 of the $3.1 million cost.
