EL PASO - Mercado Paisano, a $1.8 million, 18,800-sf mini-mall designed to reflect a Mexican Mercado, has opened at Paisano and Oregon streets in Downtown El Paso.

The Mercado has 21 of its 27 retail spots leased with 17 shops currently operating.

A diverse group of local shop owners are selling clothing, jewelry, shoes, boots, perfumes, sunglasses and other items. The Mercado shops range from 250 to 750 sf. A pizzeria (Delizia Pizzeri), Mexican restaurant (Los Girasoles Restaurant and Galeria), coffee shop and ice-cream parlor are to open soon.

Downtown Property Consulting, which oversaw development of the Mercado, said it wasn't difficult to lease the retail spaces. They say the Mercado wouldn't have six vacant spaces except that the policy is to have each store offer unique items and not duplicate products.
