COASTAL BEND - The unemployment rate for the Coastal Bend region dropped slightly to 5.6 percent for the month of April 2013, a decrease of .4 percent from April 2012.

The Corpus Christi Metropolitan Statistical Area saw its unemployment rate fall .2 percent during April 2013, a .5 percent decrease compared to April 2012.

Seven of the 12 Coastal Bend counties saw decreases in their unemployment rates, with Brooks County seeing the greatest change of .4 percent since March 2013 and Duval County dropping .7 percent since the start of 2013.

Kenedy, McMullen and Live Oak counties have the lowest unemployment rates throughout the region at 2.6, 2.9 and 3.7 percent respectively.

The Coastal Bend’s civilian labor force grew to 301,064, as did the number of employed to 284,355 in April 2013, the highest labor force and employment totals recorded for the region.

“The Coastal Bend region has added 7,164 jobs over the year, and our civilian labor force is at an all-time high,” said Ken Trevino, President/CEO, Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend.
