EDINBURG, LA FERIA – Republic Services Inc. has dedicated a state-of-the-art landfill and transfer station to meet the Rio Grande Valley’s waste needs for the next 100 years.

The new La Gloria landfill, located in Edinburg, is a highly-engineered facility and was designed as a safe, environmentally sound system for waste disposal.

The 2037-acre landfill replaces Republic’s Rio Grande Valley Landfill in Donna that was filled to capacity.

With an estimated life of more than 100 years, La Gloria will serve the entire Rio Grande Valley. Both the landfill and transfer station will accept material from residents, contractors, third-party waste haulers, as well as from Republic’s local operations.

Permitted material includes municipal solid waste, liquids, green waste and special waste.

The La Feria transfer station, located in La Feria, is a 14,000-sf facility that also will serve the Rio Grande Valley.

Transfer stations are conveniently located sites that receive solid waste, consolidate loads and optimize hauling to disposal sites. Efficiency in the number and capacity of loads traveling to a landfill means controlled costs and less air pollution because fewer trucks are required to travel those distances.

Waste from the La Feria transfer station will be hauled to the La Gloria landfill.
