FORT BEND COUNTY - Houston-based Wellington Development Co. is prepping the ground for its mixed-use space called River Pointe. The project will be built on 42 acres located on the northwest corner of Highway 59 and the Grand Pkwy. between Sugar Land and Richmond.

The plans include River Pointe Medical Plaza and retail space.

Phase I of the medical office property, a 45,000-sf, three-story building scheduled for delivery in third quarter 2014, is currently being preleased. Phase II, a 28,000-sf, two-story building, will commence construction upon the completion of Phase I.

The retail portion includes a 12,000-sf shopping center with about eight highway pad sites.

Phase I is projected to break ground in 2013, said Chris Hotze, principal with Wellington.

The two-phase $50 million project will eventually feature a two-building, 73,000-sf medial campus and approximately 52,000 sf of retail space.
