BEXAR COUNTY – Bexar County is starting construction on a $28 million flood-control project to convert the former Northwest Plaza Shopping Center into two regional storm-water detention facilities.

The Laddie Place Phase III project will remove 74 homes from the floodplain and alleviate dangerous flooding on Fredericksburg Rd. and Kampmann Blvd. in the Woodlawn Lake area.

The 26-acre site also will provide usable green space for parking, walking trails, Heritage Oak trees and land recreation sports fields.

Construction should last around 18 months and should continue until December 2014.

The Laddie Place Phase III project is funded through the Bexar County Flood Control Program, a ten-year, $500 million capital improvement program that funds regional projects across Bexar County.
