LACY LAKEVIEW - A company that has signed a lease on the former Blue Cross & Blue Shield building, at 1205 N. Loop 340, will open a call center employing up to 700 people who will answer inquiries about the Affordable Care Act.

General Dynamics Information Technology has signed a 3.5-year agreement to have a subsidiary, Vangent Inc., manage the facility under a $28 million government contract. It will employ 440 people beginning this summer and possibly hundreds more if demand dictates.

Kris Collins, director of business retention and expansion for the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce, said General Dynamics IT may qualify for funds from the Waco-McLennan County Economic Development Corp., which provides incentives to companies to locate in Greater Waco.

It will begin staffing the center within weeks and has scheduled a job fair June 14-15 at the McLennan County Workforce
Solutions Center at 1416 S. New Rd.
