SAN ANGELO - The Texas Tech University System Board of Regents has approved the construction of a $1.2 million field turf project at Angelo State University's LeGrand Sports Complex. The field will be named after 1st Community Federal Credit Union.

“This is a significant step forward in the continued development of our outdoor facilities,” said ASU Director of Athletics Sean Johnson. “Not only will it ensure the ability to conduct safe and efficient practices for our teams, but it also will save water and maintenance by eliminating a grass field.”

The entire cost of the project is funded by private donations. Construction on the field, located inside the track surface, is scheduled to begin in early June with completion targeted by early September. The field will be used by athletic teams as well as intramurals and other student activities.

“We are extremely excited to be able to add turf to the LeGrand Sports Complex. The Ram football program will see tremendous benefits in both safety and recruiting," said Will Wagner, head football coach.

Also included in the project is the relocation of the javelin runway to the upper field and the long jump and pole vault runways and pits outside of the track surface.
