SAN ANTONIO – General contractors in the San Antonio-New Braunfels metro added 3,100 employees to their payrolls between April 2012 and April 2013, according to the latest analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC).

As of April 30, 2012, local contractors reported a total of 40,100 employees. A year later, the employment count stood at 43,200 — an increase of 8 percent.

AGC tracks construction-sector employment in 339 metros. The analysis also includes rankings of the cities, based on their 12-month percentage change.

Out of the 339 metros, the greater San Antonio area is currently ranked at No. 56.

The Dallas-Plano-Irving metro posted the greatest job gain — adding a total of 11,500 construction-sector employees between April 2012 and April 2013.

Following close behind the Dallas area was the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown metro — adding 11,400 jobs over the same 12-month period.
