TYLER - After more than a year of planning, searching for and renovating a facility, Kenneth Shepherd has opened D-BAT at 4715 Candy Ln.

D-BAT is housed in a 20,000-sf metal building that sat vacant for about three years after Ranger Custom Millwork closed.

The Tyler franchise is the company’s 15th baseball and softball academy facility and the only one in East Texas.

D-BAT, which started in Addison in 1998, has most of its franchises in the Dallas area, but it has expanded to facilities in San Antonio, Houston, Oklahoma, Georgia and New York. Its wooden baseball factory is in Mount Pleasant.
