SHERMAN – Parks and Community Service Director Kevin Winkler detailed the city’s new public gymnasium, the Taylor Street Complex. The 15,290-sf complex at 1424 W. Taylor St. is across the street from the Splash Family Aquatic Center at Fairview Park.

Previously, the Council approved a Capital Improvement Plan project, which allotted $200,000 for improvements to the facility.

The Sherman Parks and Recreation Department hopes to use the facility to host family nights, youth volleyball, recreation nights, youth basketball, instructional camps and as a rain out location for other activities. Its official grand opening will likely be around the beginning of July, Winkler said.

“We want to try to provide as much opportunity in the gym as we can, but it is not just a gym, it’s a complex with the availability to do a lot of different things,” Winkler said. “One of the big things that we have planned is family nights, which provide the opportunity for citizens of any age to come out and be involved.”
