ROUND ROCK – A new Gander Mountain retail location is in the works for Round Rock.

The outdoor retailer plans to remodel and move into an existing 50,882-sf building formerly occupied by Sportsman’s Warehouse at 3203 S. I-35 in the Round Rock Crossing shopping center.

Gander Mountain will invest $1.5 million in the remodel. The company was issued building permits on May 15, 2013.

“[Gander Mountain] needs to do a demolition of the inside of the building and rebuild the inside before they open their store,” said Brad Wiseman, Round Rock Planning and Development Services director.

Founded in 1960, the company says it is the largest retail network of specialty stores for firearms, hunting, fishing, camping, boating and outdoor supplies. It operates 119 stores, including 11 in Texas.
