Houston’s Royal Sonesta readies for renovation
HOUSTON – The 29-year-old, 485-guestroom Royal Sonesta hotel at 2222 W. Loop South, will undergo a $25 million renovation that will revamp its interior spaces, lobby, and food and beverage outlets with enhancements to the existing amenities.
The renovation of the Galleria-area hotel will begin in June 2013, with the majority of work slated for completion by early fall 2013.
Royal Sonesta Hotel Houston, in the Uptown District, received its last facelift in 2001, when it was known as the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza Hotel. Hospitality Properties Trust acquired the Sonesta Collection and its management company in January 2012.
Other Houston hotels that recently announced renovations include the Savoy Hotel at 1616 Main St., Greenway DoubleTree by Hilton with a $15 million renovation, the Lancaster downtown with a $10 million revamp, and the new JW Marriott at 806 Main St. with an $80.8 million renovation.
