AT&T to hire 300 in Austin

AUSTIN – AT&T Inc. will soon be looking for applicants to more than 1,800 jobs in Texas, including 300 in Austin.

The Dallas-based company announced the positions include technicians for U-verse installation, customer service representatives for the company’s call centers and hundreds of openings at retail stores.

AT&T employs 35,000 workers in Texas.

In April, AT&T executives said the company is prepared to build an advanced fiber optic network capable of 1 gigabit per second Internet speeds, the same speed of the so-called Google Fiber network scheduled to launch in Austin by mid-2014.
