THE WOODLANDS - The Woodlands United Methodist Church has begun construction on a new Family Life Center, the first phase of a $22 million expansion project for the church at 200 Lake Woodlands Dr.

The Family Life Center will include classroom space, a second gymnasium, a library and other educational spaces on its 40-acre site by Lake Woodlands.

The church's second phase of expansion, The Harvest worship center, will include 1,000 seats, an atrium and a foyer. That project will break ground in July 2013.

The third phase of construction will be an expansion to the Loft worship space. The project will break ground in fall 2013 and add 250 seats to the 600 available now in The Loft's worship space, along with additional rooms for meetings and a nursery.

When complete, the expansion will add 80,000 sf to the church campus, which currently totals about 270,000 sf. The main sanctuary currently seats 2,200, and the chapel has room for 300 people.
