PALESTINE, ANDERSON COUNTY - The Palestine City Council has approved expenditures by the Palestine Economic Development Corporation to purchase property for Sanderson Farms Inc.
The location is on ten acres in the Willow Creek Business Park on the South Loop in Palestine. Sanderson Farms is planning to build a $17 million, 65,000-sf poultry hatchery and processing plant on the property.
Additionally, a $75 million processing facility is planned on a 170-acre tract off US Hwy. 79 South. The 180,000-sf facility is expected to bring more than 1,000 full-time jobs and an annual payroll of more than $21 million to Anderson County.
The facilities will open in 2015.
In Freestone County, a $32 million feed mill near Oakwood will employ 69 with an annual payroll of $2.6 million.
Sanderson Farms, Inc. produces, processes, markets and distributes fresh and frozen chicken and further processed and partially cooked chicken. The company built and operates a plant in Waco and a feed mill in Robertson County.
