AUSTIN - Pasadena, California-based OneWest Bank will lay off 725 workers in Austin, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act filing with the Texas Workforce Commission.
The layoffs will take place through August 31, 2013, and will affect mostly call center workers. The move is the second-largest layoff in Texas this year, according to the state. The Scooter Store in New Braunfels laid off 993 in March.
The announcement comes as Atlanta-based Ocwen Financial Corp. announced it will buy mortgage servicing rights and related servicing advances from OneWest for $2.5 billion.
OneWest moved into a 173,000-sf building in the Domain in 2009. The company estimated it employed 870 at the time and had built the facility to support 1,543.
About 150 employees are to remain in Austin. The layoffs are expected to be permanent.
