TEMPLE - The Temple Mall will become the site of the only IMAX movie screen between Austin and Dallas as part of an improvement project that will kick off this fall and is expected to be completed by spring 2014.
The project at the 555,400-sf mall will see Premiere Cinemas convert its theater from 16 standard screens to 14 screens plus the oversized IMAX screen, which measures 89 feet in height and 75 feet in width in a theater with 350 seats.
As part of the renovation project Premiere Cinemas, which opened in Temple in 2002, has signed a 20-year contract to remain there.
Other improvements — budgeted at more than $3 million over the next year and $24 million over the next ten years — will focus on the mall’s main entrance, signage and other interior and exterior upgrades.
The Temple Mall, at 3111 S. 31st St., currently features 60 specialty shops and restaurants.
