ODESSA - Northeast Odessa will see another shopping center open up along Texas Hwy. 191 early next year.

Leeco Properties President Larry Lee said groundbreaking for East Town Plaza, to be located at the southeast corner of Billy Hext Rd. and Hwy. 191, is scheduled for September. The shopping center is set to be completed by February 2014.

Electronics and furniture store Conn’s HomePlus will anchor the 75,000-sf shopping center.

Lee also said the shopping center is already 90 percent leased. A construction site map for East Town Plaza indicates a single 7,000-sf lot that will remain available by the time construction starts.

Other businesses set to open at East Town Plaza include Discount Tire, Wings ‘n More, McAllister’s Deli and Security Bank.

Value Place, which is already open, will be part of the East Town Plaza, as is Best Western, which is set to open in July.

The Hwy. 191 corridor in northeast Odessa has seen rapid commercial and residential development over the past couple of years.

Odessa's Director of Economic Development Guy Andrews said this is part of Odessa’s northeastward growth, while neighboring Midland has been growing toward the southwest as the two cities “push together” in an inter-disbursement of retail businesses and oilfield industrial development.

“That’s the hottest area of town,” Andrews said of the 191 corridor. “It’s just the availability of property, and people want to develop those types of businesses.”
