AUSTIN – Arise Healthcare has acquired the Austin Surgical Hospital in Rollingwood, changed the name and plans to cut cosmetic plastic surgery, opting to focus on other surgical specialties. The facility is now open.

The owner, manager and developer of health care facilities bought the 23-bed hospital — renamed Arise Austin Medical Center — from Tenn.-based Symbion Inc.

Diana Zamora, the new CEO of the center, said the hospital will stop performing cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery to concentrate on neurological and spinal, general, gynecological, urological and pediatric surgery.

Symbion cut all of the nearly 150 employees at the hospital and Arise Healthcare hired back three-quarters of the workers.

Arise Austin Medical Center plans to add more than 50 surgeons to its staff.
