RICHARDSON - The State Farm Insurance office complex, under construction at Plano Road and SH 190, keeps growing in size and cost.

The regional office campus now includes work on two office towers and parking garages, according to building permits filed with the City of Richardson.

The permits list the value of the current shell construction at $229 million. But that’s just for the outside of the buildings. It doesn’t include most of the mechanical, interior finish and other aspects of the huge project being built by developer KDC and general contractor Austin Commercial.

The entire project will cost well over a half billion dollars.

The entire 186-acre development site — adjacent to DART’s Bush Turnpike rail station — was acquired by KDC early this year.

Until its new campus is done, State Farm has leased almost 1.4 million sf of Richardson office space in five buildings. Recently, the company confirmed it has just taken more than 800,000 sf of additional office space in the Telecom Corridor.
