SAN ANTONIO - New data released by the International Trade Administration show that merchandise exports from San Antonio-New Braunfels metropolitan area reached a record $14 billion in 2012.

This is an increase of 33 percent from 2011 to 2012, making San Antonio a leading metropolitan market for exports in 2012.

Top exports from the San Antonio area included transportation equipment, computer and electronic products, machinery, processed foods, and other manufactured products. Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, the Netherlands and France were leading destinations for San Antonio exports.

The newly released data show that 153 metropolitan areas exported more than $1 billion in merchandise in 2012. San Antonio-New Braunfels is one of only 32 metropolitan areas with exports in excess of $10 billion.
