GATESVILLE, CORYELL COUNTY - Work to convert one wing of the old Mental Health Mental Retardation building into an eight-bed, 24/7 mental health services center has begun at 211 N. Lutterloh Ave.
Coryell County commissioners approved $44,400 for electrical, plumbing and structural repairs.
The north wing of the 70-year-old building that was once the county hospital will have eight beds for a transitional mental health unit that is part of a four-year project funded through a Medicaid waiver that will provide $1.50 in federal matching funds for every $1 of local money spent.
Contractors and county maintenance workers are pushing to have the renovations done by the end of September to qualify for fiscal year 2013 federal matching funds.
