HUTTO – The hamlet of Hutto northeast of Austin is enjoying its own growth spurt. City officials noted that they had issued more than 200 residential building permits during the first six months of 2013.

By comparison, Hutto issued 226 residential building permits for all of 2012 and 189 for all of 2011. Most of the homes are being built in existing subdivisions, but new projects are in the pipeline.

“Hutto is once again growing at a rapid pace similar to what was experienced in the mid-2000s,” Hutto Mayor Debbie Holland said.

In addition, the 110,000-sf East Williamson County Higher Education Center is almost finished in time for the fall semester, and construction is underway for the Hutto Family YMCA. That 27,000-sf building will be delivered in early 2014.

Hutto has a population of about 20,000.
