KATY - The 85,000-sf Lone Star College-Cypress Center will open in fall 2013 at the intersection of Clay Rd. and Fry Rd. as a satellite campus of LSC-CyFair. The new campus will accommodate about 3,200 students

About 15,000 sf will be dedicated to workforce programs, such as welding, machining, geographic informational systems, drafting and engineering technology.

However, the Cypress Center is a full-service campus, so students can take academic classes aside from the workforce classes.

The center also includes

  • a 13,500-sf workforce lab area;
  • 14 classrooms;
  • eight computer labs;
  • two training rooms;
  • one biology lab; and
  • one craft lab

A student services area will accommodate tutoring, testing, registration and a bookstore. It will also house administrative, staff and faculty offices.

“It’s a center that anyone can take a couple classes at if they’re transferring to a four-year university or a place where someone can pick up some skills for their job,” said Deana Sheppard, LSC–CyFair associate vice president for college centers.

The existing satellite of LSC-CyFair, the Fairbanks Center, is located near Hwy. 290 and Beltway 8.
