FORNEY – Huffines Communities is getting a rare opportunity to take the reins of and further develop more than 6,000 homes in a $1.2 billion master-planned community in Forney.

Heartland is a 2,000-acre master-planned community. The development’s initial phase started in the mid-2000s, but the project was stunted by the recession. Hillwood Communities stepped away from the project.

The Huffines brothers plan to begin construction on 170 home lots by the beginning of October. Heartland currently has no empty developed home lots.

The new homes are expected to be priced from $125,000 to $175,000.

Huffines Communities has begun the planning process to revamp designs for the remainder of the $1.2 billion project, but the future of Heartland likely will include a more upscale product.
