PFLUGERVILLE - Hawaiian Falls' will build a $21.5 million, 25-acre waterpark at the southwest corner of SH 130 and FM 685, according to the City of Pflugerville and the Pflugerville Community Development Corp (PCDC). The park is scheduled to open in spring 2014.

The year-round entertainment complex is expected to bring more than $30 million in economic impact, along with 300,000 annual guests and $6.2 million in sales, according to a study commissioned by the PCDC.

It will employ 250 to 300 part-time seasonal workers, 100 part-time workers year round and 15 to 20 full-time positions.

Under economic development agreements for Hawaiian Falls, PCDC will buy the 25-acre plot and lease it to Hawaiian Parks-Pflugerville. The company will sign a 30-year lease with two ten-year options to renew.

Pflugerville is about 20 miles northeast of Austin, and could benefit from events that draw large numbers of people to the area such as the Formula 1 races and ESPN's X Games, according to Floyd Akers, head of PCDC.

The new park will be the largest Hawaiian Falls park in Texas. The company operates 24 parks across the United States and five in Texas.
