HOUSTON - Two new data center buildings totaling 112,000 sf have been added to a 21-acre data center campus owned by Digital Realty Trust Inc. in Greenspoint, off I-45.

The new buildings are both turnkey facilities — meaning they are equipped with servers and network infrastructure in addition the traditional cooling systems and security systems necessary for all data centers.

The buildings cost between $800 and $2,000 per sf to construct. This is significantly higher than the $300 per sf it often costs to build a Class A office building, according to the Dallas Business Journal.

Both new buildings were preleased by primary tenants — geoscience companies that serve the energy industry — before they were constructed. One of the tenants is TGS Nopec, a Norway-based geoscience data provider.

Digital Realty has owned the 21 acres on which its Digital Houston Data Campus sits since 2006, according to Clint Harrington, a senior asset manager for Digital Realty’s Houston and Austin operations. The campus, originally known as the Greenspoint Technology Center, was set up as a hub for data centers.
