EL PASO – The El Paso City Council has approved a $139 million, five-year capital improvement plan for El Paso International Airport that includes $45 million for a car-rental facility, $16.8 million for runway reconstruction, $15.9 million for a new taxiway and $14 million for loading bridges.
Funding for the project will come from:
- about $55.9 million worth of FAA funds;
- $18.2 million worth of passenger facility charge funds; and
-
about $20.1 million from the airport’s own revenue.
From January 2013 to June 2013, the airport was used by 1.34 million passengers, which is 68,166 fewer than for the same period in 2012.
The car-rental facility will be completed by 2016, according to airport officials.
