Conroe makes the grade with new school completions
CONROE – Construction has been completed on the 124,560-sf Ann K. Snyder Elementary located at 28601 Birnham Woods Dr., and the 220,000-sf Peet Junior High school located at 1895 Longmire Rd.
The estimated cost of construction for Peet Junior high was $35 million and $18.1 million for Snyder Elementary, according to state filings. Snyder Elementary can accommodate 1,000 pupils, while Peet Junior High School can hold 1,200 students.
Additionally, the Conroe High School Ninth Grade campus, located at 400 Sgt. Ed Holcomb Blvd. N, gained an additional 25,562 sf — for a total of 186,016 sf. The space was needed for restrooms, dressing rooms, a weight room and a girls dance studio. The estimated cost of construction was $2 million, according to state flings.
The renovation, which took two years to complete, also called for the replacement of a roof, remodeling of the cafeteria, upgrading the utility systems, adding parking and sidewalks and replacing both gyms. The finished campus can accommodate 1,150 students.
With 55,000 new students this year, CISD remains one of the fastest growing districts in the state, according to district spokeswoman Lisa Meeks.
