WACO - A new $20 million, 121,000-sf H-E-B Plus! has opened at South Valley Mills Dr. and I-35. Additionally, there is a fuel station, car wash and a 20,000-sf retail strip outside the store.

Due to the new store opening, the 42-year-old location at 1102 Speight Ave. near Baylor and the 22-year-old store at 1110 S. Valley Mills Dr. have both been closed.

Employees of the old locations will transfer to the Plus! store, for which H-E-B has hired an additional 115 people.

The new location store is only 1.5 miles from the Baylor-area location, and Waco Transit has modified a bus route that links the Baylor campus to the new H-E-B.

“This store will offer four times the amount of fresh produce (than the Baylor-area store), organic products, a cafe with Wi-Fi, pharmacy with drive-thru, fresh-baked artisan breads, fresh seafood, fresh cut meats, fresh-squeezed juice and thousands of more items,” said H-E-B spokeswoman Tamra Jones.

The electronics department will sell movies, video games, music and mobile devices, and The Texas Backyard department will carry fresh plants and outdoor furniture.

The Flaming Bird Grill will serve grilled chicken, and the “Good Living” or pharmacy department will dispense immunizations and health screenings.
