DFW apartment construction expands to new heightsDFW apartment construction expands to new heightshttps://www.recenter.tamu.edu/news/newstalk-texas/?Item=65262013-08-27T11:39:00Z2013-08-23T00:00:00Z

DALLAS-FORT WORTH - At the end of second quarter 2013, almost 24,000 apartments were under construction in North Texas — more than any other market in the country.

Thousands more rental units are on the way, their construction fueled by North Texas’ booming job market and changing demographics. With annual job gains expected to cruise around 100,000 in the DFW area for the next couple of years, housing construction has trailed the economic expansion.

In just the last month, developers have detailed plans for almost 2,000 apartments.

With 308 units, the Streetlights Residential’s 17-story Taylor high-rise on Carlisle St. is one of the largest apartment complexes under construction in Dallas. It is set to open within the next few weeks.

Rising land costs, particularly in Uptown, are causing a shift to high-rise construction on prime sites and projects have steadily grown to 300 to 500 units.
