HOUSTON – The The $18.9 million Travis Street Plaza, a 192-unit housing community for homeless and disabled veterans, reached full occupancy in July 2013. The Midtown building at 4500 Travis St. opened its doors in December 2012.

The dedication of the community serving very low-income, homeless, and disabled vets was held this week.

The property was funded by a $500,000 grant from Amegy Bank and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas. The National Equity Fund provided $11.1 million, and additional funding came from the City of Houston, the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, New Man LLC, and Cantwell-Anderson.

The property will be one of the city’s few permanent housing communities for veterans with support services, according to city officials.
