HOUSTON - Construction contracts in the Houston metro area totaled $10.6 billion for the 12 months ending July 2013, a 7.5 percent increase from the $9.8 billion during the 12 months ending July 2012, according to McGraw Hill Construction.

Residential contracts increased 15.9 percent from $6.3 billion in the 12 months ending July 2012 to $7.3 billion in the 12 months ending July 2013.

Nonresidential contracts decreased 7.5 percent from $3.5 billion in the 12 months ending July 2012 to $3.3 billion in the 12 months ending July 2013. The chart below compares totals for the month of July for 2013 and 2012.

Residential includes single-family homes, duplexes and apartments.
