KENEDY, KARNES COUNTY - A real estate development has broken ground to capitalize on growth in South Texas’ thriving Eagle Ford Shale oil-and-gas play. The park is located along Texas Hwy. 181 in Karnes County, one of the shale’s most active spots for oil production. The site is located near the town of Kenedy, an hour southeast of San Antonio.

Laredo-based developer Hachar Investments has begun marketing the Kenedy Business Park.

“We see a lot of companies moving into Karnes County right now,” says A.B. Barrera, director of sales and marketing for the site. “And Kenedy’s right in the middle of it all.”

The developer has 120 available acres in the property, divided into 29 lots. The park recently signed its first lease — for a Stripes convenience store — and is looking for tenants ranging from restaurants and laundromats to oilfield-service yards.

Crews are now bringing utilities to the site, including water from Kenedy’s El Oso Water Supply Corp.

Hachar plans to have the development substantially leased by 2013 year-end.
