McALLEN - The City of McAllen has partnered with The Retail Coach, a national retail expansion and development consulting firm. Recent permits show a beginning investment of $22 million in about 36 new businesses that have opened or are under construction.

Leading the way in the investment is a $6 million Hawthorn Suites, currently under construction, and a $3 million office retail complex called The Grove.

Currently, more than 1.3 million people reside in the retail service area, and McAllen is also a shopping destination for residents of Monterrey and other major Mexican cities.

The city is in a long-term strategy to develop its western corridor from the McAllen Convention Center west to Taylor Rd. with new office complexes, hotels, restaurants and retail stores, and the creation of hundreds of new jobs.
