CORPUS CHRISTI - Coastal Bend unemployment dropped in July to 6.2 percent — a drop of two-tenths of a percent compared to June, according to the July job and employment report. This means 8,233 more people have jobs than a year ago, netting an unemployment decrease of six-tenths of a percent from July 2012.

The Corpus Christi Metropolitan Statistical Area increased by about 6,800 jobs from July 2012, with about 3,400 new mining, logging and construction jobs; about 2,100 new leisure and hospitality jobs and about 1,000 jobs in education and health services.

The greatest job growth was seen in Bee and Refugio counties, with an unemployment decrease of four-tenths of a percent for June.
