SEGUIN, GUADALUPE COUNTY - Remote Logistics, a Houston oil and gas company that caters to oil and gas executives, has acquired a historic downtown hotel to renovate into niche housing to accommodate Eagle Ford Shale energy executives.

A $3 million restoration is set for the five-story Seguin hotel on River Street.

Corporate customers get a roof, three meals a day, laundry cleaned and turndown service for less than $100 a night.

Opened in 1917, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. It was called the Plaza Hotel from 1935 until 1954, when it became dorms for Texas Lutheran College.

Then it was apartments between 1964 and 1978. It was converted into offices around 1980 and renamed The Park Plaza Building.

The building’s roughly ten commercial tenants must vacate by December so restoration work can start. Besides constructing a rooftop garden and restoring a ground-floor restaurant, the planned renovations include recapturing the historic flavor of its original marble lobby.
