TEMPLE-BELTON - Temple-area existing home sales rose 6.9 percent in July compared to 2012. The average price of Temple-area homes hit a July record of $158,700, up from $144,700 in July 2012, according to data released by the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University.

The dollar volume of all properties sold in July also increased to $25 million from $22 million the year before.

Prices were within several thousand of Temple’s record high, $163,800, set in October 2011, according to the Center.

“Our housing prices were never too high and never too low,” said Lee Peterson, Temple Economic Development Corp. president. “Our housing slowed down a bit but kind of kept on moving.”

Although July levels were record setting, the percentage increase was more modest than national gains because of greater local stability during the recent economic downturn, experts said.
