PEARLAND – HCA Gulf Coast Division has broken ground on the $71 million, 144,000-sf Pearland Medical Center situated on 48 acres at Hwy. 288 and Shadow Creek Pkwy. The hospital will open in fall 2014, according to HCA.

The 30-bed hospital will feature surgical suites, intensive-care beds and a 24-hour emergency department. It will also provide women’s services such as digital mammography, labor and delivery suites, cesarean-section operating rooms and a nursery.

The tract of land is already home to a full-service emergency department, imaging center and three-story, 80,000-sf medical office building.

St. Luke’s Episcopal Health System, Memorial Hermann Health System and HCA Gulf Coast Division all own land in Pearland, which is just minutes south of the Texas Medical Center.

Pearland is the fastest growing community in the Houston area. The city’s population was projected to increase from 91,252 in 2010 to 123,119 in 2020 and to 141,993 in 2035, according to the Houston-Galveston Area Council’s 2013 Population and Employment Forecast.
