Tyler to tout 700,000-SF retail center
TYLER – It’s official! The Village at Cumberland Park, an 80-acre retail development, will be constructed at 9098 S. Broadway Ave. in South Tyler.
The center will have 12 main buildings and will total about 700,000 sf, according to David Wilson of The Retail Connection, the developer.
Mark Whatley, broker for Burns Commercial Properties, said they plan to begin moving dirt and clearing the undeveloped land with a groundbreaking on September 17.
The development will include smaller box stores, restaurants, lifestyle specialty type stores and service users. There will also be a central park and water features. The Retail Connection L.P, a Dallas-based company, has been working for about six years on the project.
Tenants include Rockwall-based Shenaniganz, which will take up to 60,000 sf and include a bowling alley, laser tag, arcade and mini-putt. Also, Bed, Bath & Beyond will relocate its Tyler store to the new center, expanding to 34,000 sf.
Ohter tenants committing to space at the center include Cost Plus World Market, Joann’s, PETCO, DSW, Gordman’s, Studio Movie Grill, TJ Maxx, Ross (its second store in the city), Dress Barn, Kirklands, Lane Bryant, Famous Footwear, Carters and Osh Kosh.
Steve Lieberman, CEO of the Retail Connection, said the project will ultimately accommodate approximately 90 retailers, most of them new to the Tyler market, generating over $200 million in annual sales, over $3 million dollars of incremental sales taxes annually, and create over 2,000 new jobs for the City of Tyler.
