HOUSTON – The former Macy’s department store building in the heart of downtown Houston has been demolished. The ten-story, 791,000-sf building at 1110 Main originally opened in 1947 as a Foley’s department store.

The building’s owner previously stated they planned to replace the building with an office building. However, the city and developers have remained tight-lipped about the future of the site.

Many older, blighted buildings have been scheduled for demolition to make way for newer, high-end apartments and condos in downtown Houston. See a 2012 demolition in Houston, Ben Milam Hotel to be razed for upscale apartments.
