KINGWOOD – Friendswood Development Co. added to the Kingwood master-planned community with the purchase 221 acres in the northeastern portion of Kingwood where West Lake Houston Pkwy. ends near Mills Branch Dr.

The land will be the future site of Royal Brook with homes starting in the $300,000s, according to commercial real estate firm Avison Young. Friendswood Development Co. is also developing Royal Shores at Kingwood with homes from the $400,000s.

Kingwood, started in 1971, spans some 15,000 acres with 75 miles of greenbelts and 500 acres of private parks and nature reserves; it is about 24 miles northeast of downtown.

Kingwood was the 12th most active community with 272 houses started in 2012, according to Metrostudy.
