SUGAR LAND - Memorial Hermann Health System is set to embark on a $93 million expansion of its Sugar Land hospital. The expansion will include a new six-story, 120,000-sf patient tower that will increased the hospital's bed count to 141.

Phase one, expected to be begin by year-end 2013, will add eight new beds to the emergency center, increasing the total count to 26.

Memorial will also build a surgical suite with digital integration, providing physicians with access to patient records and imaging studies within the operating room.

Phase one is projected to be completed by the middle of 2013. Phase two, construction on the patient tower, will start in fall 2013. The tower will ultimately be able to house 210 beds.

In April, Memorial Hermann said it would build three more medical office facilities across the Houston area and a multipurpose campus on the 40 acres it owns in Pearland.
