HUNT AND RAINS COUNTIES – Construction has been underway for almost a year on the huge highway improvement project on Two-Mile Bridge/SH 276 in southern Hunt County. The $47.85 million project will replace the 52-year old bridge over Lake Tawakoni.

It will likely be about another two years or so before motorists will be able to drive across the main connector between West Tawakoni in Hunt County and East Tawakoni in Rains County.

Phase 1 of the project involves the installation of drill shafts, columns, caps, bents, beams and slabs for the new bridge, which is being constructed immediately to the north of and parallel to the existing bridge. Traffic will continue to run on the existing bridge during the initial phase.
