Texas, Harris County — a domestic migration destination
TEXAS – Texas is the leading state for relocations, according to the National Association of Realtors (NAR). Texas had a 10,326-home net gain in households, meaning more people moved to the state than left.
“Data show that the continued growth of the Texas housing market is not a housing bubble but a genuine surge in demand fueled by job and population growth across the state," said Shad Bogany, chairman of the Texas Association of Realtors, in a statement. "People are moving, and they’re moving to Texas. Clearly, Texas is a domestic migration destination.”
The organization also found that international homebuyers alone contributed $6.13 billion in home sales to the Texas economy between March 2012 and March 2013.
Within Texas, Harris County is the most mobile county, the report found. With 67,299 households moving to Harris County, the area ranked No. 1 in Texas and No. 3 nationally for the largest overall inflow of households.
But even though people are moving to Harris County, many are also leaving. The county also lost 65,395 households, making it the top county in Texas for outflow.
