WESLACO - A new 41,000-sf Walmart Neighborhood Market will be constructed at the corner of Texas Blvd. and 18th St. The store will employ 95, and is expected to open in summer 2014.

The Economic Development Corp. will be providing the store $150,000 worth of incentives. The store will be the first Neighborhood Market in the area and the first south-side grocery in Weslaco.

“Walmart’s placement of a Neighborhood Market in south Weslaco positions it closer to our southern neighborhoods including Progreso, Progreso Lakes, and the Progreso International Bridge, which creates a more expansive economic footprint,” said Joe A. Martinez, Economic Development Corporation of Weslaco Board Member.
