Horizon City’s first Walmart Supercenter opens
HORIZON CITY - The new 186,000-sf Walmart Supercenter has opened at Horizon Blvd. and Darrington Rd. Currently it is the largest retailer to locate in the town of more than 17,000 people. Estimated value of construction was $7 million.
The Horizon City store employs about 300 full- and part-time workers and will hire a few more people to cover the busy holiday-shopping season.
This is Walmart’s ninth Supercenter in the El Paso area. It also operates six Neighborhood Markets and three Sam’s Clubs in El Paso County. It is one of the area’s largest employers.
The new store is a typical Walmart Supercenter; however, it has a Subway outlet rather than the McDonald’s found in many other El Paso Supercenters. It also has a SportsClip franchise and First Convenience Bank branch inside the store.
