DALLAS - The 110-year-old Hughes Brothers Candy Factory building at 1401 S. Ervay, south of downtown Dallas, has been purchased by SkyWalker Property Partners. The new owners plan to spend $3.2 million converting the former manufacturing building into residential units.

Built in 1903 for $50,000, the property has been prized by preservationists who have hoped to see it redeveloped. The five-story building, totaling nearly 60,000 sf, sits in one of the city's oldest neighborhoods, The Cedars.

The factory is the only structure still standing in Hughes Circle, now Sullivan Dr. The Cedars had transitioned to light industrial uses during the 1920s.

Construction is anticipated to start within nine months.
